Kidscape Child Protection trainers have previously worked for many years within the Met Police in Child Abuse Investigation and Child Protection Training. They have carried out Child Protection training for Kidscape in schools in the UK and around the world in British International Schools as well as in other organisations such as British Gas.
Basic Child Protection
It is essential for anyone who works, or volunteers,in settings where they come into contact with children, to undertake Child Protection training to recognise the importance of Child Protection/Safeguarding issues. Staff should undertake this course every three years.
Aim:
The aim of this course is to enhance awareness and encourage good practice for all those who come in to contact with children, 0 to 18yrs, in a variety of settings, including schools, youth programmes, family support centres, community groups, through their work, or as a volunteer.
Objectives:
This course will help participants to: -
- Understand broad definitions of child abuse and neglect
- Deal appropriately with disclosures
- Have an awareness of how a child’s race, culture, gender and ability inform an assessment of their needs
- Know how to make a referral
- Act appropriately on suspicion or knowledge that a child may be at risk of suffering harm
- Understand the Child Protection system and professional roles within this
- Understand how discrimination can impact on children and families in the child protection system.
- Understand both victim and offender behaviour
