Kidscape’s advanced course is specifically designed for managers who are responsible for the child protection process in their setting. It is advised that those who apply for this course should have completed a Basic Child Protection/Safeguarding Course. Designated Child Protection Officers should undertake this course every two years.

Aim:

To equip all those attending with the knowledge& skills needed to perform the function of ‘Designated Person’ or ‘Child protection Officer’ in their setting.

Objectives:

This course will ensure participants will: -

• Develop an advanced understanding of Child Protection issues
• Have a further opportunity to explore attitudes and values including race and diversity,   with regard to safeguarding children.
• Refresh & enhance their knowledge of signs and symptoms of abuse
• Understand that although it is plausible for child care practitioners to predict the likelihood of certain children being abused, more robust evidence is needed
• Understand that some children are resilient to abuse i.e. they see this as ‘normal’ behaviour
• Receive information about Child Protection processes, including Child Protection conferences
• Identify good practice in working with children and families, and reflect on their setting’s policies and procedures
