Kidscape is entering into a partnership with children’s book publisher Andersen Press for Elmer the Patchwork Elephant to become the ambassador for our Friendship Friday activities starting in November 2019.

Kidscape is seeing the need for early years anti-bullying resources grow each year, so for the first time we will launch a reception and Key Stage 1 resource for Friendship Friday (of which Elmer will be the star!) to guide children through the ideals of friendship and acceptance that Elmer the Patchwork Elephant represents.

Elmer will feature in the Friendship Friday online resources and printable packs for teachers and classrooms, which will be available to every school across the country.

David McKee, creator of Elmer said:

“If Elmer can help in any way, no matter how small, to encourage friendships then he will, he tells me, feel very proud. As will I as his creator.“

Jill Taylor, fundraiser at Kidscape, says of the partnership:

“We are delighted to be partnering Kidscape with Elmer from 2019. Elmer stands for friendship, acceptance and inclusivity, which are at the heart of Kidscape’s work and Friendship Friday.”

Elmer remains one of the most iconic and widely read children’s book series of all time, selling over 10 million copies worldwide since it was first published by Andersen Press in 1989. Written and illustrated by celebrated children’s author and artist David McKee, the Elmer books have been translated into more than 50 languages.
