Kidscape is dependent on the generosity of our supporters as well as the goodwill and trust of the public. We are therefore committed to protecting any personal information we collect about you, whether online, via phone, text, email, in letters or in other correspondence.

This page (together with our Cookies policy) sets out the basis on which we will process any personal information we collect from you or that you provide to us.

What is Kidscape?

Kidscape is the first charity in the UK established specifically to prevent bullying and child sexual abuse. Kidscape works to provide individuals and organisations with practical skills and resources necessary to keep children safe from harm. Kidscape staff and trainers equip vulnerable children with practical non-threatening knowledge and skills in how to keep themselves safe and reduce the likelihood of future harm.

What kind of information does Kidscape collect?

When you donate money to us or access our information or request services or products from us, we may collect and process personal information about you. This personal information may include your financial details, name, email address, postal address, telephone or mobile number or date of birth.

If you are contacting us about instances of bullying please note that we may collect personal information regarding your child's specific circumstances. This may also include 'sensitive personal data' such as ethnicity and physical or mental health.

We may also collect details of your visits to our website, including but not limited to traffic data, location data, weblogs, and other communication data and the resources that you access. By submitting this personal information you enable us to provide you with the information, services or products you select.

To help us create a more effective website that reflects users' needs, we may also use cookie files to collect and record information about how our website is used and collect your IP address (a number that identifies a specific computer or other internet device) for system administration and to report aggregated information. Cookie files and IP addresses will not identify you as an individual. By continuing to use our website, you agree to our use of cookies.

How will Kidscape use the information you collect?

We are required by the Data Protection Act 1998 to ensure that any personal information you supply to us is only used for the purpose for which you provided it.

When we request your personal information on this website, if we tell you we will use it for a specific purpose then we will only use it for that purpose. If we don't tell you we will use it for a specific purpose then we may use it in the following ways:

  • in relation to any correspondence you have entered into with us whether by letter, email, text, social media, message board or any other means
  • for internal record keeping
  • to provide you with information, services or products you have requested or which we feel may interest you where you have consented to being contacted
  • to allow you to participate in our website, when you choose to do so, for example helping you complete forms by inserting your contact details for you to edit
  • to analyse and improve the services offered on our website
  • with IP addresses, to identify your approximate location, block disruptive use or to establish the number of visits to the website from different countries.

Where does Kidscape store personal information?

Kidscape may for financial or technical reasons use the services of a provider located outside of the European Economic Area. However, Kidscape shall ensure that personal information held by those providers will be in compliance with European data protection regulations. By submitting your personal information to us you agree to this transfer, storing or processing at a location outside the European Economic Area.

Will Kidscape ever contact you without permission?

We will never contact you by email unless you have given us permission to do so. If we contact you by phone or letter we will not contact you again if you ask us not to.

False representations

Kidscape does not try to encourage donations or fundraise by making unsolicited telephone calls. There are several organisations and individuals who claim either to represent or be connected with Kidscape and try to solicit donations or urge you to purchase games and books - they are not from Kidscape.

Will Kidscape ever share my information?

Kidscape will never sell your personal information to third parties.

We reserve the right to disclose your personal information to third parties if required or permitted to do so by law, or to protect the rights, property or safety of Kidscape or others. This includes exchanging information with other companies and organisations for the purposes of fraud prevention.

What does Kidscape do with financial information?

If you enter into a financial transaction with us (either by purchasing our services, products or by making a donation), we will keep your financial information for a period of time no less than six years from the date of the transaction in order to comply with HMRC regulations.

By purchasing services or products via our website you agree to be contacted by us from time to time with details of other services or products we think may be of interest to you. You can opt out of these emails or subscribe at any time by emailing unsubscribe@kidscape.org.uk


Where we have given you (or where you have chosen) a password which enables you to access certain parts of our website, you are responsible for keeping the password confidential. You agree not to share that password with anyone else.

Linking to other websites

Our website includes links to other websites that are not owned or managed by Kidscape. Whilst we try our best to only link to reputable websites we cannot be held responsible for the privacy of data collected by websites not managed by Kidscape, nor can we accept responsibility or liability for those policies.

How long does Kidscape keep personal information for?

We will hold your personal information on our systems for as long as is necessary for the relevant activity, e.g. we will keep a record of donations for a period of time no less than six years. If you request us not to send you marketing information we will keep a record of your contact details and appropriate information to enable us to comply with your request not to be contacted by us.

Access to data

You have the right to see the information we keep about you - this is known as a Subject Access Request under the Data Protection Act. You can also ask us to update or remove information should you wish.

Please note that Kidscape may require you to prove your identity. It may also be helpful to tell us something about your contact with Kidscape to help us process your Subject Access Request efficiently. We will process Subject Access Requests within 40 days of receipt.

Changes to our privacy policy

This privacy policy may be updated from time to time so you may wish to check it each time you submit personal information to us. If you do not agree to these changes please do not continue to use this website to submit personal information to Kidscape.
